Frequently asked questions

How much income do I need for Spain's digital nomad visa in 2026?

At least 200% of Spain's monthly minimum wage: €2,849 a month (€34,188 a year) for the main applicant in 2026. Add €1,068 a month for the first family member and €356 for each additional one.

Why did the requirement go up in 2026?

Because it is tied to the minimum wage (SMI). Royal Decree 126/2026 raised the SMI to €1,221 a month in 14 payments (€17,094 a year), so the visa threshold rose with it.

Can my partner's income count?

The income has to come from the remote work of the main applicant: employment with a foreign company or freelance clients. Family members are added to the application and raise the amount you need to prove.

Can I work for Spanish clients on the digital nomad visa?

As a freelancer, yes, but work for Spanish clients cannot exceed 20% of your total professional activity. Employees must work for a company outside Spain.

Do digital nomads pay tax in Spain?

If you live in Spain for more than 183 days a year you become a tax resident. Digital nomad visa holders can opt for the Beckham Law: a flat 24% on employment income up to €600,000 for six years.
